Hi guys!
“Richard does a tech victory dance”🚀 I got into Outreachy Internship! The excitement is so intense, it feels almost physical! Can you feel my energy jumping through these words?
This is my first blog in the series of Outreachy Internship adventures, and over the next few months, I'll be sharing my journey, my passions, and how I'll be working the CNCF Opentelemtry community with an amazing mentor on the project: “Contribute to setup guide for development of OpenTelemetry” with skills in OpenTelemetry and Software Development.
Buckle up for a ride of inspiration and transformation!
WHO IS RICHARD?
So everyone knows me as Richard, a cloud computing enthusiast with a heart full of dreams and a mind hungry for innovation.
I'm an Outreachy intern, and my journey has been anything but traditional. As a former graphic designer, my path has been shaped by an insatiable curiosity and a determination that refuses to be contained.
My Professional Metamorphosis
From designing logos to diving into the complex world of cloud computing, my journey might seem like an unexpected leap. But for me, it was a calling—a passionate pursuit of growth and impact.
My interests now span cloud technologies, sustainable tech solutions, open-source contributions, and leveraging technology to create meaningful change. And that is why I am so excited to work on the cloud native platform, Opentelemetry.
Each skill I learn is not just a technical achievement but a step towards solving real-world challenges.
My Core Values
Determination
Determination isn't just a word for me—it's a lifestyle. When people said switching from creative design to hardcore tech was impossible, I saw it as an invitation to prove them wrong.
In the tech world, we have a saying: "If it looks challenging, that's where the real adventure begins." This spirit drives me to push boundaries, take on complex challenges, and transform what seems impossible into possible.
Growth
Growth, for me, is about continuous evolution. Each new technology I learn—be it Azure, AWS, or scripting—is like unlocking a new level in my personal development game.
I'm not just learning skills; I'm expanding my universe. Every challenge is an opportunity, every setback a lesson, and every achievement a stepping stone to something greater.
Challenge
I love taking up new challenges and fixing what isn't working even without having a single idea how to at first gives me joy.
Others may see challenges as worrisome, but I see them as a means to learn something new and remind me once again about the Power of the mind.
What Motivated Me to Apply to Outreachy
My journey with Outreachy wasn't instantaneous. I first heard about the program during my design days and was fascinated by its mission. Initially, time constraints prevented me from fully engaging, but that didn't deter me.
Imposter syndrome? Oh, I've wrestled with that demon. Transitioning from design to tech, I often wondered if I truly belonged. But Outreachy became my proving ground—a platform to challenge those doubts and showcase my potential.
When I received the acceptance email, it was more than just an internship confirmation. It was validation of my journey, my struggles, and my unwavering belief in myself.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." – These words resonate deeply with my journey.
A Personal Note
Behind every tech enthusiast is a support system. My family and friends have been my cheerleaders, believing in my dreams sometimes even more than I did.
They've watched me transform from a complete novice to a cloud computing enthusiast, supporting every wild, ambitious step of my journey.
The Road Ahead
I'm not just here to learn tech skills. I'm here to be part of a global community that believes technology can be a force for good. Contributing to open-source projects, supporting under-represented groups in tech, and creating solutions that can potentially change lives—that's my mission.
Today, I'm writing this as an Outreachy intern, ready to shine my light and hopefully inspire others to chase their seemingly impossible dreams!
Richard, you did this!
See you in my next blog! The cloud native adventure has just begun! 🚀☁️
